Nature In The City 2008-2013

This series was inspired by those grassroots gardening efforts and pockets of plant life that pop up in neighborhoods across NYC. I love the ways in which foliage intermingles with the city’s hardscape; soft leafy greens against solid geometric forms; living breathing, growing, and changing textures against concrete surfaces. I'm also attracted to color contrasts; the vibration of bright greens against brick reds and the movement of fluttering leaves casting cool shadows upon sidewalks and facades. More broadly, I love the idea of a city teeming with nature, softening and enhancing by adding beauty, fragrance, tranquility, shade, and wildlife. I aim to capture that life force that surges up through the urban environment and enriches city living.
